The Emerald Coast Move-In Checklist: Jobs to Knock Out Week One

New house on the Emerald Coast? The first week is the best time to knock out the setup list — before the boxes take over and the “I’ll get to it” pile starts.

The week-one list

• Re-key the locks — you don’t know who has a copy; one key for the whole house
• Mount the TVs and set up plug-in/Wi-Fi cameras and a video doorbell
• Assemble the furniture, the grill, the kids’ playset
• Hang mirrors, shelves, blinds, curtain rods and art
• Small fixes — sticking doors, cabinet hardware, caulk, touch-up paint
• Haul off the mountain of moving boxes and packing debris

Should I re-key the locks on a house I just bought?

Yes — it’s the first thing we recommend. You have no idea how many copies are out there. We can re-key everything to a single new key the day you move in.
